The Floral Field Trip
As professional floral designers there is a rich opportunity to highlight each region's most beautiful flowers and foliages year-round. Seasonality happens throughout the country, 365 days, 12 months a year. Ther is always something blooming, but without the knowledge of each region's growing pattern a designer is left to source what grows seasonally in their region while admiring what is growing across the country from afar. We want to empower business owners to be able to procure in a whole new way. With intentionality and with confidence.
On the Floral Field Trip you will spend two and a half days at Mountain Flower Farm in Warren, Vermont. You will join your trip guides, Kelly Shore of Petals by the Shore and Mary Kate Kinnane of The Local Bouquet at the farm with flower farmer Walt Krukowski. Attendees will get an in-depth look and a hands-on experience learning about the different varieties of blooms, foliage and branches that Mountain Flower Farm can ship directly to you May - October. You will have the opportunity to walk the fields with Walt hear and see how he grows his flowers, see how he harvests the blooms, have an opportunity to assist with harvest, see how they ship them to you and learn how to best process his product when it arrives in your studios.
There will be multiple breakout business sessions over the two and a half days with Walt, Semia Dunne of The Floral Reserve, Debra Prinzing of Slow Flowers, Mary Kate & Kelly, and Alison Ellis. Topics we will cover include how to source, how to plan ahead for your events, what is available when and where in the U.S. and how do I get the product, how to price, the cost difference between domestially sourced and imports, how to sell domestically sourced flowers to your couples/clients, and how to communicate why this is important to you.
Attendees will also have the oportunity to get their hands on Walt's flowers for some design time. They will each create their own bouquet and will work together to create a foam free ceremony structure for a small portfolio buiding shoot with Sarah Collier of Taken by Sarah.
We also want to experience the surrounding area and will have a local sightseeing adventure to a local waterfall surrounded by the peak fall foliage of the Vermont Green Mountains.
Attendees will be staying at Knoll Farm a retreat farm with a yurt village and on-site chef who will prepare three meals a day using organic locally sourced food. All this is included in the ticket price.
